Matt 25 and 26

Here's some questions for you as you read Matthew 25 and 26:

1. What can we learn from the parable of the 10 virgins and the parable of the talents?

2. What do we notice in the plot to kill Jesus and the betrayal of Jesus by Judas?

3. What can we pull from Peter's denial of Jesus?

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday. Bring a friend!

Matt. 23 and 24

Couple things I want you to think about with this mid-week update as you read the reading:

1. Note how Jesus talks about the Pharisees. What seems to be their main problem?
2. Note Jesus' prophesy of the temple being destroyed. Look at the words he used. Look up the history of the temple and see if Jesus' words came true. (donuts for whoever can find any historical connection).
3. Jesus talks of the Tribulation and the Second coming (2 of my favorite topics). What do we learn from Jesus himself about the end times?

There it is kids. Have a good rest of the week. See you all on Sunday morning.

Week of March 16

Here's some of the discussion points for this week:

First off, ironic event this week. We started with Matthew 21 in keeping with our two chapters a week thing. Matthew 21 starts with Jesus riding into town on a Donkey. Ironic that that story comes up on Palm Sunday. Part of Matthew 21 even came up in today's scripture reading in church.

We talked about Jesus flipping tables and whatnot when he saw people selling and buying in the temple. This lead to a small discussion about being nice and ignoring sin and letting it go.

We also talked about how the scripture talks about how children praise God. Do you think there's some sort of connection between this and when God said that we enter heaven with the faith of a child?

We then discussed about Jesus talking about prayer and how we can make mountains move. Yet we don't see people express this kind of power. Why do you think that is?

Finally we talked shortly about the religious leaders asking Jesus where his authority came from and he didn't really answer them. Why do you think that is? What can we pull from this?

Class news

Just thought I'd bring everyone up to date on a possible change coming up in the class. The idea has been brought up that we change our focus off of the New Testament for a while. We will refocus on the beliefs of the Methodist church and discuss if we agree with those beliefs or not. I'm going to see about getting the books that were used by the new members class Kerry was a part of (it's just a matter of me remembering to ask Pastor Tom about it). We'll then spend some time on this as since we all attend a Methodist church and it might be a good idea for us all to understand what the church believes.
